At Amazon Business, we align our technology to key moments in the procurement lifecycle, from requirements and sourcing, through ordering, payment, and reporting. Every feature aims to solve procurement pain points, to help customers simplify their business buying journeys and eliminate friction along the way. While this lifecycle has stayed constant, generative AI and agentic B2B procurement capabilities are giving each stage a new dimension.
At this year's Amazon Business Reshape, the annual technology keynote from Doug Gray, VP of Technology, builds on that shift with new technology announcements designed to make this lifecycle more dynamic. This year brings an AI-powered, end-to-end procurement experience; a new view of Amazon Business value beyond cost savings with Value Intelligence; and expanded Amazon Business Assistant actions including conversational analytics and payment assistant. Each is built to speed up buying, turn spend data into decisions leaders can act on, streamline manual payments processes, and connect procurement to the systems teams already use.
"Every feature we build maps back to a real opportunity across the procurement lifecycle. In other words, all our inspiration comes directly from our customers."
Amazon
Business is making procurement meaningfully simpler, faster, and easier
for customers by bringing an AI-powered end-to-end procurement
experience into leading e-procurement systems. Working with select
partners including Procurify and Lio, the new experience connects
e-procurement systems directly with the Amazon Business store and search
experience.
This new experience bridges e-procurement systems and Amazon Business's broad selection and business pricing using agentic capabilities. With this new enhanced experience, participating e-procurement systems can securely exchange relevant context such as purchasing policies, budgets, order history, and product search information with Amazon Business, which in turn provides tailored product recommendations within a buyer's existing e-procurement system. The result is a streamlined e-procurement experience that helps buyers find the right products at the right price—all with the ease of a fast, simple product search experience within their existing procurement system.
To help establish a foundation for this type of integration at scale, Amazon Business is working with partners including SAP to lead the charter for a new Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) domain for B2B procurement.
This UCP vertical extension proposes a shared, open model for how organizations procure from suppliers through AI systems. It spans:
Rather than each integration independently modeling business identity, pricing, and policies, UCP envisions one shared model where participants reach multiple counterparties and contribute to an open roadmap. Amazon Business will work with procurement and spend management systems to develop this shared model around the needs of business buyers and suppliers.
Procurement’s role is changing. Cost savings still matter, but they no longer tell the whole story. Gartner® research finds, “By 2030, cost reduction is expected to fall to the fifth most important procurement priority, with innovation, risk management, and working capital contribution rising significantly.”1 The harder question for leaders is how to measure everything else their teams deliver through procurement KPIs: the risk they manage, the suppliers they certify, the complexity they strip out, the compliance they tighten. All of it creates value; most of it has been difficult to quantify.
Value Intelligence is a feature from Amazon Business that quantifies procurement value into one clear view of cost savings, purchasing compliance, and operational efficiency, so teams can see and communicate value in terms beyond dollars saved. By connecting the day-to-day work of buying to outcomes leadership recognizes, it helps procurement show its full strategic impact and further position procurement as a strategic function.
"I could present this at a purchasing meeting."
Procurement teams increasingly want tools they can simply ask for what they need, and Amazon Business Assistant has grown to meet that demand with two new capabilities: conversational analytics and smarter payment capabilities. Since it debuted at last year's Reshape, Amazon Business Assistant has evolved from answering procurement questions into a conversational tool that draws on your team's own workflows and purchasing activity to surface insights, make recommendations, and help users act without leaving the conversation.
Teams can now manage approvals, track orders in real time, and flag unusual purchasing patterns through spend alerts, all by asking.
With conversational analytics, Amazon Business Assistant turns questions into answers without the detour through reports. A team can ask “How much did we spend on office supplies last quarter?" and get an answer right away, no report to build, no spreadsheet to comb through. The same plain-language approach reaches across the rest of the day-to-day too, from tracking orders in real time to checking approvals and helping with tax exemption set up, so the work of staying on top of spend and compliance takes a sentence rather than a workflow.
Amazon Business Assistant brings that same conversational help to accounts payable, where manual steps can pile up cost and delay. It learns how your organization typically pays and recommends how to apply each payment, with you in control. By helping automate invoice allocation, payment scheduling, and issue resolution, Amazon Business Assistant can reduce the errors and processing overhead that slow a payment cycle down, smoothing the workflow without taking control out of your team's hands.
“Payment assistant has helped us reduce the amount of reminder mails regarding unallocated amounts.”
These launches point to a bigger shift: procurement is becoming a more agile, insight-driven function, with AI supporting strategic priorities through each stage of the procurement lifecycle. Together, AI-powered, end-to-end procurement, new Amazon Business Assistant capabilities, and Value Intelligence give teams a sharper, more connected way to work, and a running start at 2027.
